The lower center can also solve an important fit problem. Women with close-set or touching breasts often do not have enough room for a traditional center panel to rest comfortably against the sternum. A plunge bra reduces the amount of bra structure placed between the breasts.
A plunge bra is defined by its low center - not by how much of the rest of the breast it covers.
A plunge bra has a center panel that falls below the horizontal breast-apex line - the imaginary line running across the fullest point of the breasts. The farther the center drops below that line, the deeper the plunge.

One demi has a sweetheart neckline. Another looks like a plunge. Another looks almost identical to a balconette. Some are seamless contour bras; others are sheer lace or multi-part seamed bras.
They all can be demi bras.
In today's lingerie industry, demi has become a catch-all term for bras that intentionally expose some portion of the upper breast. It describes a general level of coverage rather than one specific neckline or construction.
A demi bra exposes some of the upper breast while still providing lift and support. Unlike a full coverage bra, it lowers the upper edge of the cups to create a more open neckline.

Few features in lingerie are surrounded by more myths than the underwire. Some women avoid underwire bras because they have had an uncomfortable experience. Others believe underwires are unhealthy, restrictive, or impossible to wear comfortably.
After fitting thousands of women, I have found that the underwire itself is rarely the problem. More often, the issue is an incorrect bra size or a bra style whose engineering does not match a woman's body.
When an underwire bra fits correctly, the underwires completely surround the breast tissue, never touch the skin, and become one of the most comfortable and supportive foundations available.
Underwire bras remain popular because no other support system consistently provides the same combination of lift, separation, shaping, and long-term support across such a wide range of sizes.
Despite its name, an underwire usually is not made from wire. Most are stamped from flat sheets of metal, shaped, rounded along their edges, and finished with coated or capped tips before being sewn into a fabric channel within the bra.
Because the metal is completely enclosed, the underwire never comes into direct contact with the skin.
Its purpose is to create a rigid foundation that allows the rest of the bra to provide support, lift, shaping, and containment with less bulk.

The fabric channel is sewn slightly longer than the wire. With wearing and washing, the wire can migrate toward the center or underarm end and work through the stitching.

When your breasts are properly lifted and supported, their apex should generally sit around the midpoint between your shoulder and elbow. That visual check is useful when evaluating lift, but the exact position will vary somewhat with your body and the bra style.
