Modern-day underwear — bras, panties, etc. — eventually replaced the chemise as the first layer of clothing worn by women. That said, the chemise nightgown still exists as sleepwear today.

Chemises typically fit slightly loose due to their design. As such, we recommend you choose your normal dress size when buying one.

You can wear a bra under a chemise if you want to for additional support or coverage. However, if you’re just going to bed and you don’t typically wear a bra to sleep, it may be better to go braless so you’re more comfortable.
