Best Panty Styles For Your Bottom Type

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Panties today come in many styles with several features. So, what are the best styles for your bottom type?

Here's some help. First, a quick run-through of panty silhouettes. Starting with the most coverage, there are women's briefs. They sit at your natural waist just below your navel. Their leg openings follow the natural bend of your upper thigh, then around and under your back cheeks giving you complete back coverage that can look invisible under clothing.

Next up High-cut briefs, also called French cut - have a larger and higher cut leg for a more flattering look. High-cut briefs with side-seams positioned more forward near the center front leg will also provide full back coverage. Without these seams, the back coverage is reduced.

Boyshorts have a lower mid-rise waist and come with a squared-cut leg that falls below your back cheeks. The leg edges usually have no treatment, so can easily stretch while staying almost invisible under form-fitting clothes.

A hipster is a brief with a lower waistline to hide under today's lower rise pants.

A bikini has a waistline lower than a hipster and a little higher cut leg, thus creating moderate back coverage and thinner sides.

The Tanga style is the midpoint between a bikini and a thong. The legs are cut to create a 45 degree angle across the back cheeks. And a thong has minimal side and no back coverage. It sits low on the waist, and can have a back "whale tail" design.

Women’s bottoms come in several shapes, and there are specific solutions for each, to get a perfect and comfortable fit.

Women with flat or minimal bottoms should avoid panties with hi-cut legs. Without sufficient back flesh, this panty style tends to ride up in back creating a wedgie. Also, avoid panty styles with gathering along the back leg edges. Their fullness will be too much for you and could create puckering. Instead, cheeky back coverage will look great on you and give the illusion that you have more of a bottom. Panties without elastic sewn along the edges will also be a better fit. So, consider boyshorts and bikinis. Tangas and thongs are also great choices. And, HerRoom offers padded panties should you wish to add more size to your backside.

Women with a sagging or low hanging bottom by contrast, should steer clear of panty silhouettes with less back coverage - low bottoms will simply hang out from under these styles creating visible horizontal panty lines that cut your cheeks in half. Also avoid hi-cut anything. Their side angle rarely comes down far enough in the back to give your cheeks coverage. Instead, styles with substantial back coverage like briefs, boyshorts, and hipsters, or bikinis without hi-cut sides will work best. Their leg openings will tuck nicely under your back cheeks and can actually help to raise them some. There are also bottom lifting panties at HerRoom that are found in our shapewear department. Of course, you too can wear a thong. However, it will not provide any bottom support.

"Bubble bottoms" are full and round bottoms. The challenge is that more fabric is needed in the back. So, a bubble bottom wearing a mainstream sized panty will find the panty front being pulled down and towards the back, thus making a lower waist in front and an uncomfortable and unfinished fit in back. High-cut leg panties will not give good back coverage and could creep inward. There are however, several panty solutions for this bottom type. First, consider going up a panty size to give you more coverage in back. A panty with a center back seam gives more contour and prevents the "uni-bottom" look. And some back seams also have gathering or grouching which nicely compliments this type of bottom. Cheeky cuts like a tanga give you a sexy silhouette without pulling. Boyshorts will give good back coverage and fit because they usually come with a back seam and an inseam. And, panties that are really stretchy and have 4-way stretch can stretch to give a more custom fit. A thong, of course, will fit because there is no back to it.

Women with full thighs and a full bottom are best served in panties with hi-cut leg designs. Why? Because a hi-cut leg hole is larger, so will be less binding around the thighs. And pay close attention to the finish around the leg holes. Try and avoid panties where there is elastic sewn along the edges - this treatment tends to be binding around larger thighs. Instead, look for stretchy lace and leg openings without any elastic treatment such as laser cut edges. These finishes are less binding and will not cut into your thighs. Finally, a full coverage panty will only make your bottom look bigger. Boyshorts, bikinis and tanga styles will look cheeky and sexy while providing the illusion that your bottom is smaller. And the best-fitting thong styles for you will be ones with a v-shape center front.

So here are some final points on panties.

Full-cut briefs are absolutely the most comfortable silhouette and a great choice under skirts. And, they no longer look like "granny panties." They now come in stretch laces with beautiful design details. Many include tummy control to keep you smooth and contained.

There are now workout panties. Made in performance fabrics that wick moisture away, they keep you cool and dry while providing support and modesty under workout shorts and leggings.

New fabrics that wick moisture away from your body and breathe have made obsolete the need to wear 100% cotton underwear to prevent trapped moisture. And these new performance fabrics are stronger, smoother, thinner, softer, and hold their shape better than all-cotton panties. Pretty much all panties on the market have some type of cotton lining in the crotch. If they don't, we at HerRoom point this out.

Finally, the biggest mistake many women make is the way they put on their panties and thongs. They pull them up like pants, and thus pull them up too high. A panty should be placed on your body, making sure the waist is resting in the proper location and the back is pulled down where it should be. Same holds true for a thong - make sure it's waistband sits low like it was designed to do. In the proper location, that dreaded floss feel goes away. Do this right, and you'll forgo constant adjusting and discomfort.

Now that you know which panties work best for your figure type, have fun picking panties in all kinds of colors and styles.
