The waist is one of the most important target areas in shapewear, as a nipped-in waist gives that desirable "hourglass" look. Shapewear that targets the waist frequently extends above it, all the better to avoid the dreaded "muffin top," where flesh spills over the elastic waistband. Waist cinchers combine strong stretch knit control fabric with multi hook-and-eye closures and sometimes boning to whittle the waist. High-waisted girdles achieve the same effect, as do bodybriefers and body suits with engineered knits and strategically placed bands to slim the waist. These control garments also control other target areas for a completely smooth look under clothes.
