This item runs very small not the size that was recommended on site.

HerRoom Response: We have sold this item for many years. It runs true to size. You need the size that fits both your hip and waist measurements. Mary from Thousand Oaks California USA

Typical high quality you would expect from Rago. Provides a beautiful shape. Comfortable as far as foundation wear goes, and, hard to believe, but it does not cause you to overheat. For people who want true foundation wear, not just squishy, stretchy sausage casing. I ordered the wrong size so the fit was way off, but the product was of excellent quality and construction. The fit is exactly as described in the reviews. I got s 2” waist reduction with this size and possibly could have purchased a L instead of XL but the XL fits so good I can wear it all day, with garters and hose or without the garters. I plan on getting a couple more. Aimie from Arkansas

The 21 waist cincher is the best of two worlds. It has strong forming power and really improves your posture, plus it is comfortable to wear. It can be worn with or without stockings. I wear a girdle every day and the 21 is one of my favorites! Klaus from Germany

Loved the Rago Waist Cincher as soon as it arrived. The color (white) was exactly as pictured. Only drawback, because I am petite and also curvy, my monstrous hips makes it so the bottom edges roll up. I've gotten past this by hooking garter straps to thigh-high leggings. Otherwise the small is a perfect fit. Would highly recommend. Stacey from Austin, Texas

I love this item. At first I thought it would be too small but once I put it on, it gave me the perfect hourglass I was looking for! My waist/hip is 31/42 and I got a medium. It's definitely tight but in a way I like. I would go up a size if your measurements are any bigger. Bernice from Colorado

It's excellent and if I had checked the sizing better I would have ordered up, since I bought it for my sister and not myself. But I put it on myself and love the way it feels, though its too big for me since I am a few sizes smaller. Max from Vermont

My 15-year-old daughter has always had a weight problem. It shows up especially on her hips and tummy. Exercise and diet have not helped at all. For a while she wore panty hose but she didn’t like that. She said she sweated in them and there was little control. When I talked to her about a girdle she said girdles were for old ladies. I laughed because I wear one and I am 41 years old! Eventually she agreed to try one and I ordered this. She absolutely loves the firm control she now has! What is more she looks so pretty in it. The high waist suits her, as do the zippers. Best of all, she seems slimmer in all the places that she had not been before, including her behind. I wasn’t sure about her wearing nylons with garters, but she really enjoys them and says she feels like an adult. She wore the girdle and stockings to church a week ago and afterwards couldn’t stop telling me how comfortable and confident she was. Someone even asked her if she had been working out. Thank you so much, Rago and Her Room! Joanna from Kansas

I have two other brand of girdles sold by HerRoom, and the Rago ones are by far the best. They make the only ones that don't buckle in the waist. I think the majority of people that purchase this product are going to be happy. The manufacturing on this is really fantastic, as well as most of the design. It does have a couple of flaws, but I haven't found any girdles that don't have these problems: pinching at the top and stretching after wear. This girdle has a tiny strip of elastic that will inevitably fold in and pinch you, or fold out and be apparent through clothes. Why they put it there, I have no idea – it serves no purpose. And it does stretch after a few wears. If your hip measurement allows it then size down in order to resolve this issue. sil from Oregon

This waist cincher does what it's supposed to, pull in the waist. I loved it. I'm 5'1" and 145 lbs, measurements: 36-30-40. I enjoyed how it helped my posture when sitting. My only gripe, even if it's a "me" issue, I ended up having a weird shelf on my upper back. This was when I first wore it, I'm scared to wear it again in public because of it. Maybe if I break the girdle in more it won't do that, or just lose some weight. ;) But be forewarned, it will feel binding when you first wear it. Also, if you have hips go with the hip measurement when determining the size you need. If not, you may get an odd bulge from the boning curving above your backside because the bottom half of the girdle won't lay flat. Another thing about the boning, it will show through fitted t-shirts and thin fabrics. I even if a camisole or slip is worn beneath, they will still show. Just keep that in mind. It's a bit of a bummer. Other than that, it looks crazy sexy with stocking and heels! Stephanie

I'm short and plump with a back problem and have been feeling discouraged about the way my clothes fit for a while-- especially my thick waist... but this item solved all of that. For the first time in ages my back had the support it needed without feeling constricted. And for the first time in ages I looked really good and felt really good. I'm going to order a 2nd one! I'm so glad you were able to offer it! Thanks!! Plus size Diva from California

My work requires lots of driving in sub-par vehicles with shoddy suspension and worn-out seats. It also requires I work 10-hour shifts, walk about 4 miles a day, and get in and out of said vehicles about 50 times in one shift. This has resulted in severe low back pain, probably from a ruptured disc in my lumbar spine. Once I put this waist cincher on, it seemed to stretch out my spine so that I couldn't slouch in the vehicle. What gave me tremendous pain with muscle spasms radiating up and out to the sides of my back seemed to go away while wearing this. It also kept me from swinging from side to side every time I turned the wheel. Posture was much improved. My figure seemed much more hourglass with this on, as well, an extra bonus. With this on, I finished my shift and could skin the pain medications and muscle relaxers. It does show under clingy or tight fitting clothing, as others have mentioned. I'm only giving it four stars though, as the top of the cincher seemed to stretch out at the end of 10 hours, and as a result has started rolling down. Also, one of the spiral bones has come out of the stitching. This is probably more because of the rigors I put this through while working than quality of craftsmanship. I would recommend this for people looking to accentuate their curves and for people with back pain and moderately physical work. It definitely beats wearing a chunky back brace! For me, I've decided to purchase the heavy duty version of this to help me through my work day. M from Washington

I have never purchased a waist Cincher before and was a little nervous. This one came highly recommended so I gave it a try. This was not a special occasion purchase. I wear this often as a foundation piece with my long line bras. I love it! It holds me in so I don't have to worry about it (it makes a big difference when you can finally let your tummy muscles relax!) I'm 5'4 and usually wear an XL-2X. I bought this in a 2X and it feels wonderful. I can sit and move and I'm not uncomfortable. It gives me a beautiful silhouette and makes my circle skirts and dresses fall as they should. I'm 5'7," 225 lbs, and pear shaped (when I was reading reviews before buying, I was DESPERATE for that info from reviewers!). Most of my weight is in my hips and booty, and I have a large derriere. This cincher did not work for me at all because it simply was not long enough to cover my entire derriere no matter how far I pulled it down. I don't think a larger size would work, because I had no problems closing it, and I could see a bit of cinching action on my tummy, with no muffin-spillage. But with the way my bottom is shaped, the back just kept rising up, either bunching on top of my booty or stopping halfway, creating a line across that can be seen through clothing and an awkward half-smooshed/half-plump booty shape (LOL). Incidentally, I can tell this cincher is quite well made, with the boning and all. I wish it had worked. It's just not for the large-bottomed woman. Judy from Washington, DC

This is the waist cincher I have ever found that actually did anything- Since I am short, it works to hold in my tummy also. The way I put it on is to leave it hooked up and inside out- I step into it, pull it up and then pull it over my tummy and waist right side out. I take it off in reverse order. I agree, I could never just pull it around and hook it myself! This method, when done quickly, does not seem to harm the metal stays. I do hand wash them, because machine washing seems to shorten the life of the garment. Hope this helps. Janet from Southern Pines, NC

I have another waist cincher but it's not nearly as comfortable as the Rago. I saw this product advertised on a vintage clothing site but they were sold out! A quick Google search brought me to HerRoom and I am extremely satisfied with the selection & sizing guides. I'm a tall woman and carry all my weight in my back/gut. This cincher creates a lovely waist line and made my holiday dress look amazing. I got the black cincher with garters and it was a hit with my husband too! It had a nice fit (for the most part) - it sucked in just enough to not make your torso look stiff and obvious that you're wearing shapewear - but the sole problem I have with these kinds of girdles was that it was too short ! It was either pull it all the way down (so that it would cover the bottom section of my stomach) and have my muffin top fluff out the top, or pull it all the way up and have my stomach hang out the bottom. It was an uncomfortable and hardly classy bulge either part - it wouldn't work out! My words of wisdom: unless you know you have a tiny torso, don't get this! These kinds of corset styles don't work well with people that have normal-sized torsos to long torsos. Get something that would guarantee you coverage.

Rago Response: This garment is made for the average torso. You should try a different type of garment for the more coverage you are looking for. We suggest Rago High Waist Long Leg Shaper Girdle 6207 Samantha from New Jersey, US

I am 5'8"; 28" waist; 37" hips. I read the reviews before placing my order and so ordered one size smaller (S ). I was thoroughly planing on enjoying this girdle and so also bought a XS in black as a few reviewers suggested to compare the fit. I thought I might like them both. I didn't Both these sizes fit me. The S is fairly easy to get into. The XS is more difficult, but possible. I find I like the shape the S gives be better. The XS shape seems exagerated. The XS would require alterations to the waists of all my skirts it reduces me so much! i much prefer the gentle hourglass shape the S produces. I will return the XS The XS also scrunched up the fat between the top of the girdle and below the bottom of my bra band. It is fine with me, because I'm a thin person without much fat. I wonder how it would go with a heavier woman though. I think if I were any bigger, I might want to wear a bra with a very wide band that overlapped the top of the girdle to minimize/hide this roll of fat. I like this girdle. It gives a very smooth flat tummied look. Carrie from Long Beach, ca

Buy one size smaller than you think you will need so that the cincher can actually reduce your waist. Or order two sizes to try and return one. I adore this cincher! I am also a designer and I recommend this to all my customers - who are mostly in the 20's and 30's- who buy my dresses. They LOVE it, too! I own this in two colors and it is the very best garment of its kind on the market. Does wonderful things for your figure and is super comfortable. However- rago! Please fix your sizing. This cincher is XS and fits me perfectly (I have a 26 3/4" waist) while I have their high-waisted "pants" style (girdle that is shaped like bicycle shorts) and the S in that style is too small for me... and I have small hips. That style is also a brilliant design but Rago needs sizing consistency throughout their line. K. R. from Austin Tx USA

It was too small. Did not match my waist sizes. Would be better with a zipper. The heavy duty garters make it look old fashioned and I believe anyone who is old enough to have worn a girdle would need a zipper. It would be sexier and easier to dress if it had smaller metal garters and a zipper. New customer

I ordered the Rago Waist Cincher a few months ago in black. I wear a lot of natural waisted skirts and do a lot of pin-up modeling. The sizing seemed right on (measure by waist/hips), and it easily takes an inch+ off my waist! The garter clips are very sturdy and never pop open. The only reason I am not giving this garment 5 stars is that when you remove the garter clips (to wear with something sans stockings) the little tabs that the clips slip into stick up (ruining the line of a pencil skirt), and the hem has a tendency to roll upwards if you sit down for too long (again, sans garter clips) I honestly love this product, and look forward to more! I bought the Rago 21 a month a go. At first, it fit perfectly, shaped well and I loved the garment. However after a short period of time I noticed threads started unravelling at the bottom and front closure. The closure also started becoming distorted in between hook and eyes. Now the garment has stretched so much that it only offers light shaping. I measured my waist when wearing the shaper while it was new and nearly lost an inch (my natural waist is 28 and I went down to 27). Now, even with the shaper on my measurement is the same as before although it makes me sit up straighter. It's a great shaper for special occasions but it does not hold up to extensive wearing. The price is low but not worth buying a new one every other month. Fé from Canada

Does what it says on the tin. Have one, bought a second because I liked the first so well I wanted to wear it every day, even for biking. Very very very comfortable. In addition to cinching your waist, it's a gentle reminder to sit up straighter and actually use your core muscles to support your torso. So while it might seem like a garment that you can't use for athletic stuff, it's a really nice thing for getting your form to be a smidge better. Torrilin from Madison, WI

Love the fit! I see a noticeable difference in how much smaller my waist looks when I wear this garment. The garters hold on the stockings really well, however, the bands that hold the garters are getting stretched out looking rather quickly, and the metal fasteners that are supposed to hold the bands in place to adjust to different lengths also don't work very well. If it weren't for those two issues I would give this garment 5 stars. Peeper

This definitely gave me a more streamlined shape and pulled my waist in. I returned it because it wasn't exactly comfortable to wear with a long-line bra under my wedding dress. It probably wasn't meant for that but seeing as my cup size is a GG/J, I didn't really have much of a choice but to go with two separate pieces. I also returned it because I don't have anything else that necessitates such supportive shaping and can be worn with a bra with straps. I may reorder in the future need be! Elizabeth from Iowa

At first it didn't look like it would fit, but it did and very comfortable. It took a couple of inches off to allow my new dress to flow very nicely. You definitely need to go more by your hip size when choosing a size. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to get rid of couple of inches for night. Jodie from Honolulu, HI

I ordered both the Rago 21 (in white) and the 821 (in beige). Both are lovely, but the 821 is definitely more invisible under clothes. Although I like the look of garters, I wouldn't use them on a regular basis. That said, the 21 would be gorgeous under a wedding dress. My recommendation is to order based on your measurements and the size chart, ignoring the column with dress sizes. Going down a size is only good in theory - in reality, you have to account for the fact your hip bones can't be cinched in and there will be spillage on top and bottom. Ellie from VA

This is great and did take 2-3 in off my waist and hip measurements. I purchased it for my wedding coming in Oct and had the dress made according to my measurements wearing the cincher. I do wish it was just a bit tighter though. I took another customers advice and ordered two sizes smaller than the size chart indicated and it is still just a little looser than I was hoping for. Also my rear is high so I had a bunch of excess material bunched up on top of it so I just turned it around and it fit in the back perfectly then and came down just a bit lower in the front as well which I like. Great item, very comfortable for all-day wear and really improves the fit of vintage-style dresses. One caveat - if you are any taller than I am (5' 9") this likely won't work for you as the garter clips won't be long enough. Drusilla from Virginia, USA

I have been wearing the Rago 21 cincher for years. It is the only waist cincher I have found that takes into account that if you want to be cinched in the middle, you most likely hourglass out at the top and bottom. Most cinchers are shaped like a glorified tube, which causes spillage at the top & bottom. These give you the glamorous hourglass figure of vintage movie stars. The garters also hold up your stocking securely! Tiffany from Roseville, CA, USA

I do not like how this particular garment fits on the body : it is very visible, as to the shape, it does not create naturally beautiful shape. I bought two sizes - one XS , one S not being sure what will fit best on my size frame, but neither are good : S is visibly too large, and XS gives a very definite appearance of a waist BUT at cost of creating LOVE HANDLES, the VERY thing one wants to avoid in the first place. My recommendation is a no.

Rago Response:You might try Rago waist nipper 821 as it is smoother and has a no show effect. Customer from NY

I weigh about 140 pounds and wear a size 12. I thought a large would be plenty big for me. Well, the waist cincher was half of what I would need to wear for comfort. I have re-ordered a size 3X because I want to have comfort. I am 100 years old and I wear it basically to keep my stockings up. After reading a lot of the other reviews of this product I decided to go with a size down, so I bought the x-small. I'm very happy with it. It takes about two inches off my waist and is very comfortable, even after wearing it for 10 hours. I was afraid that I might have some trouble with pinching at the hipline, since my hip measurement is much larger than the one listed for the x-small, but it covers easily without any lumps or bumps. Very happy with my purchase! Eve-Lynn from Kentucky

This is ok if you're thin and need a little bit of a shape to figure your curves out. It's not to hold in the rolls or fatten them out that much. The cincher has extra stitching on the waist area which can make too much of an indention and a bit of a roll above the waist.

Rago Response:This garment should be pulled up under the breast plate, as it is a 12 and 1/2 inch waist cincher and is meant for high waist wearing. The circle band design should help contour the body and hold it in place. A softer waist cincher by Rago is the 821 or 721. Thank you for your comments. Dominique from New York

Wow, really makes you smaller! My waist looks tiny. On the cons side, it's not comfortable to wear and for me isn't long enough (and I'm only 5'4"). But on the other hand it improves my posture. This waist cincher did not reduce my waist size at all. It was very difficult to fasten, so I know that it was not the wrong size. All it did was squeeze me tightly and force me to sit up straight. I could barely tell any difference wearing it underneath the gown I put on, and the front seam was visible through the dress, which had a beaded overlay. I ended not wearing it for my special occasion..

Rago Response: Try the Rago 821 - it has more holding power. Disappointed from Norfolk

I love this girdle. Pros: Fits true to size on waist and hips easy to wear, able to move in quite easily really gives that hour glass shape you need for snug fitting dresses and purist classic structure for vintage foundations 1940-1960. Seriously makes your clothes look better. (I don't recommend pants or shorts for this style, unless you are wearing loose wide leg trousers.) made in USA - this really gives that quality and historical value to it - as back in the day, almost everything was made in country. Cons (not really cons, more like tips,): You need to wear stocking with these to keep the edges smooth, or from rolling up, which is how it was intended anyway. You need to wear a bra that will cover your sides as the girdle will push up some flesh. But wear the right bra and its fixed. Keep in mind, wearing a girdle is not like wearing panties and a bra - at all. it's a whole new way of moving, dressing and feeling - so it's not supposed to feel "free" or "easy to wear" in our modern sense. All in i love this and will be buying more! merstian from new york, Ny USA

This is so retro awesome! I bought it for a photo shoot and it really stole the show. Please, though, READ THE SIZE CHART before ordering. Then, order about 2 sizes smaller than you think you need, going by your measurements. For example, my measurements of 45/48/53 put me above the 8x, the largest size available. However, the 8x totally gaped on me. The 6x was perfect. The measurements that are most important for this item are your empire waist/underboob measurement and your hip measurement. Also, if you are tall (or have a big derrierre like me), the garter straps in the back are not long enough to stretch over my butt when I'm sitting, they are very uncomfortable. The front ones fit great though. And the garters are removable. I would recommend this for a vintage lingerie look. I paired it with a lacey bullet bra that I also found at HerRoom and looked awesome! Rebecca from seattle, wa

I got this item (in XS) to use with my seamed stockings (I love the 1940's-50's style clothing). It goes great under everything. It was a bit snug at first, but after having it on for 5 minutes it felt great. My waist was 25 3/4 inches before, and it was 24 inches after getting the cincher on. It gave me the hour glass figure I wanted. I am thin, but I have also had a child and still have just a bit of a pooch. This cincher makes it totally flat. I also have a bad habit of slouching due to back problems. I noticed that I sit and stand a lot straighter with this on. Oh and before I forget, Thanks Herroom. Super fast shipping. R.S. from CA

I bought this cincher for extra help fitting into my wedding dress, which has a very fitted midsection, and the dress was a smaller waist size than I was when I bought it. I def had some unwanted love handle action going on. I couldn't have fit into the gown without exercising every morning for the past two or three months or so, but this cincher gives the extra help I needed to finally zip the dress up all the way without worrying about busting my (vintage) dress. I bought it in a size smaller than I am, as I was told by a friend you should do for maximum effect. But no one product can work magic. Ladies, if you are in a similar situation, I recommend exercising regularly and watching your diet in addition to wearing this garment. Colleen from Baton Rouge, LA 70806

I followed the sizing instructions for this product, and it was WAY too small. I ordered another (2 day air) before sending the first one back, since it was for a special occasion. This one I ordered 2 sizes larger, an XL. Guess what? It was still too small! I recommend placing a call to confirm what size to order. It is a nicely made item, and is very pretty. Too bad I had to get one not as nice at the last minute from Wal-Mart. But at least it fit right the first try, and by the numbers, not even trying it on first! Fits perfectly. It's comfortable, too. I don't feel choked or stuck. It holds my baby fat in, which no other shapewear would do, which is why I ordered this model. Only one problem, which is that the upper rim elastic is a bit larger than my rib cage. This means it shows as a "rim" when I wear my two skin-tight knit dresses.
