Underwires, which are sewn in between layers of material, can be made of actual wire, plastic coated metal or molded plastic. An underwire bra is especially useful for women who wear a C cup or larger, since they offer support and prevent sagging.
Underwire bras come in many styles, including front-closing bras. A front-close underwire bra will close with either hooks and eyes, a barrel closure or, in some cases, a zipper. Some women prefer front-close bras for the ease of getting it on and off. Fit is particularly important in front close underwire bras because they have limited adjustability.
