Nothing is more annoying than slipping on stockings only to realize you've snagged or ripped through the toe. That is why many manufacturers now construct pantyhose, including stockings, with a reinforced toe. While completely sheer stockings will have the same appearance from toe to thigh, this is a more delicate construction, prone to runs. Typically, stockings with a reinforced toe will have a thicker, stronger weave around the toes. They're probably not your best bet with open-toed shoes, although some women think they create a retro, sexy look. A more recent innovation is a less visible reinforced toe, often called a sandal toe. The weave around the toe seam will be slightly thicker than the rest of the stockings, but only barely visible. This is a versatile option, more durable than sheer toe, but so barely visible that they work with strappy shoes as well.
