Spanx has changed the way women dress and for that we can thank one person, Sara Blakely. She created Spanx by cutting up a pair of panty hose to create an undergarment to fight the dreaded VPL -- Visible Panty Line. Growing from one women’s entrepreneurial dream, the Spanx shapewear line now includes Spanx panties, tummy control shapewear, Spanx hosiery and new Spanx bras.
Celebrities swear by Spanx and for good reason. The various Spanx styles smooth, shape, and can make you look 5-10 pounds slimmer. With styles that range from panties to thigh-length to footless pantyhose to full bodysuits, Spanx styles solve any fashion challenge we women have. Shape your waist, shape your thighs, shape pretty much everything and do so in comfort -- something earlier girdle-wearing generations could have only dreamed about.
But looks aren’t everything. What makes Spanx the champion of shapewear is the fit. For example, unlike other brands, with sewn-on elastic leg bands, Spanx are one-piece and seamless, designed to lay flat against your leg with no riding up and no dreaded "saddle bags." The crotch is high-quality cotton, well-made enough to substitute for underwear. The waistband liberates us from that binding, too-tight suffocating feeling of the typical rubber-cord waistband. No cord, no pain.
The brand has expanded to so many styles that there’s a Spanx solution for everything from tiny knit dresses to everyday wear to slinky evening wear. They continue to innovate to keep us comfortable, shapely, and confident. Spanx now has over 100 different styles, including plus size, covering (literally) from the bust to the ankles and everything in between.
Who’s wearing Spanx? Pretty much everyone. We all know that Oprah loves them—she featured them on her show. Add to that the entire cast of NBC’s new series Lipstick Jungle. Gwyneth Paltrow fessed up to wearing two pairs at a time after her pregnancy. Anne Hathaway wore the Spanx Power Panties during the filming of the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" to go from a size 6 to a size 4. Jennifer Hudson wore the Higher Power High Waisted Power Panties as she accepted her 2007 Oscar for "Dreamgirls." Spanx Slim Cognito Shaping Bodysuit was worn by Beyonce and the rest of the cast while shooting the movie "Dreamgirls." Madonna’s entire outfit for Live Earth was made from Spanx material. And you can be pretty sure that your fashion-savvy friends own a few styles too.
By the way, ever wonder why Blakely named her products "Spanx?" Since she wanted something original and catchy, she knew she would have to invent a word. Spanx is edgy, fun, extremely catchy, and for a moment makes your mind wander and wonder..’Spanks’…’spanx’… See what we mean? Spanx kept up their edgy marketing by giving their products fun names too. Who wouldn’t want to wear styles called "Hide & Sleek" or "Slim Cognito" or "Bra-llelujah?"
If you're new to Spanx, we think you’ll find comfort far beyond typical shapewear. If you're already a fan, you'll find many new styles to try at HerRoom. Either way, we think Spanx will be your new best friend.
