There is a surprisingly varied collection of soft cup metal-free bras on the market, including sports bras, bralets, bandeau bras and sleep bras. A soft-cup bra, also known as wireless bras or wire-free, will have no underwires under the cups. It can still offer support by means of modern-day stretch fabrics, often double-layered. Metal-free bras will either have hardware made of plastic or no hardware at all, typical of many sports bras.
There are many reasons for choosing a metal-free bra these days, not the least of which are allergic reactions to metals like nickel, airport security and most of all, comfort. Many sports bras will be soft-cup with no closures, metal or otherwise and are meant to be pulled over the head. Bandeau metal-free bras are usually strapless and also are just pulled on. Considered the new layering piece, they're gaining in popularity, although this style is not recommended for sizes larger than a D cup. |
