In Japanese culture, kimonos aren't just sleepwear robes, but traditional special-occasion garments worn by men and women alike. In the U.S., kimonos are worn mostly as bathrobes or cover ups. A kimono is a t-shaped garment with straight lines, usually with wide, long sleeves and a sash. They can be full-length or very short, falling to mid-thigh.

Kimonos come in virtually any fabric, from sleek satin kimonos to plush velour. Some have contrasting fabric on the flat collar and along the edge. Along with the detached sash, some kimonos have an internal tie to keep the robe securely closed. The kimono is an easy, flattering style.
