Nylon has great benefits as a hosiery fabric including shape retention and stretch, easy care and durability. It also can have varying levels of shine and sheerness. In fact, nylon pantyhose and stockings can be so sheer as to be virtually weightless. Sheerness is measured by a fabric denier, with 8 being the most sheer and 100 being the most opaque. Nylons with a 15 denier or less are often called 'ultra-sheer.' Sheer hosiery is offered in different finishes as well, from a fashionable matte finish to pantyhose with a silky sheen.
