The nylon in the socks keeps them from being too tight or loose. I was first attracted to this sock because of the top. So many socks have elastic that cuts into your leg, especially if your feet swell at all. This doesn't and has an attractive edge which can be worn as is or turned down as much or little as you please. Original purchase was an Oberlin, Ohio store but this fall when I wanted black socks, they were out of stock. Went on line as the shipping fee was cheaper than a trip back. Emily from Columbus, OH

Great socks! No eleastic in the top. It is very difficult to find in a department store a sock that has no elastic at the top of the sock.
