The key to comfort during exercise and outdoor activity is layering your clothing. The base layer, which is against your skin, performs the important function of moving moisture away from your skin to keep you from feeling clammy and chilled. Base layer tops not only perform this function, but some are attractive enough to be seen once you go inside and perl away those outer layers. Look for tops made of fabrics that wick moisture, typically a modern technologically advanced synthetic. The layering tops should be soft against the skin with enough stretch to stay in place. Some layering tops are constructed to improve mobility, too. Styles range from no-nonsense long-sleeved tee shirt styles through high-tech stretch crews, high-neck and zip neck styles. Pick the weight that's right for your activity. The more strenuous the activity, the lighter weight base layer you should wear. The heaviest, expedition weight, is for extreme cold and situations where you'll be staying still for periods of time.
